United Van Lines have been tracking migration patterns annually since 1977 and have just released their 38th Annual National Movers Study highlighting 2014 – Where does Nevada rank?? #6 with 57.3% of their Nevada shipments coming in state.
Nationally they’re seeing a long term trend where people are moving the southern and western states. Economist Michael Stoll attributes this migration pattern to lower housing costs, climate being more temperate and job growth at or above the national average. Other amenities that are drawing people in are the outdoor recreation, arts and entertainment activities and going green.
On a separate study from United Van Lines, one in four of the Northeast region outbound movers claimed they were relocating for retirement. Where the Mountain West has the highest number of inbound movers, nearly one in three claiming retirement.
